Are you brand new to the DSLR camera world? Did you get one for the holidays and want to move beyond the auto mode? Horn Photo’s basic DSLR class is what you have been waiting for!

This class will be an introduction to the fundamentals of your DSLR camera. No matter what brand you shoot. We will explore more of the Mode Dial on top of your camera and show you many of the ways you can control how your photographs are captured. We will shed some light on some of the key terms and concepts of photography.

Introduction to Canon DSLR Cameras

Enter the world of the digital SLR and learn about your Canon camera and how to take great pictures with your Canon DSLR. We’ll take you out of the automatic mode, but we won’t overload you with too much technical detail. You’ll see diverse examples of great photography and learn techniques to use your camera to control exposure, composition, flash, and a variety of lenses to get the results you want.

Introduction to Nikon DSLR Cameras

In this class we walk you through the various settings on your Nikon digital camera, taking care to explain and show you how each mode works. By the time you leave this class, you’ll know the difference between an f-stop and a bus stop; you’ll learn how all of the different Nikon scene modes work; you’ll learn how interchangeable lenses work and how to use which lens for specific purposes; you’ll learn about photography composition; ultimately, you’ll learn how to take better pictures with your Nikon DSLR camera.

Introduction to Sony Mirrorless Cameras

Sony's Premire Technical Rep Glenn Weinfeld would like to show you how to take exciting and interesting photographs! Experience creative tools inside the Sony A6000 mirrorless camera that will change the way you take pictures! See just how easy it is to take panoramic photo and High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographs.

Glenn will also show you some pretty neat Artistic Effects like partial color / BW, color posterization, retro photo, miniature, etc. You can even use your smartphone as a remote control to take pictures and you can use camera apps installed right on your camera, (time lapse, photo editing, star trails etc).

Glenn graduated from one of the premier photo schools in the country, Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in advertising photography. He has used every camera from the largest film equipment to the latest technology from Sony.

Portraits and Composition

Portraits are of the most important photographs we ever take, yet we often take them for granted. We take snapshots here and there, we photograph the big events of life, but do we understand the true importance of the portrait? Thus we invite an exploration of the portrait genre of photography: What makes a great portrait? What lenses are best? What angles work best? What backgrounds are best? How do you capture emotion? What about lighting?

An exploration of portait essentials and techniques is the mission of this two-hour class.

Photo Essentials: Composition and Lens Choice

In this class we introduce to you several important fundamentals of photography composition: we will teach you how to frame the subject in your photograph to hold your audience's attention; we will reveal some of the thought processes in capturing all the elements that you want (and leaving out what you don't want); and we will go through how to choose your lens, how lenses enhance or detract from different elements in your images, and what is the best lens for your particular shooting style.

Point and Shoot Essentials

This 90 minute class focuses on getting the most out of the variety of automatic modes and scene modes that your specific camera has. We will help you understand each of these automatic modes on your Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus cameras.

Additionally, we will discuss composition and a variety of shooting techniques for you to capture your precious memories with ease and without separating you from the most precious moments of your life.
